Chrissy Barton-Jones
I was once a headhunter. Now I enjoy getting inside people’s heads as a storyteller and content creator.
My career has changed over the years but one thing has stayed the same - people. I love getting to know what makes people tick. I definitely did that for more than 10 years in the recruitment industry on both the agency and client sides while working abroad for UK, US and European-based companies, including Poolia, Havas Media and ChannelAdvisor (now Rithum).
Starting a family brought me back to New Zealand and sparked a career change into copywriting, editing and content. I love how it combines my passion for meeting interesting and exciting people with the joy of the writing craft.
I enjoy interviewing startup founders about their latest marketing learnings for Stella Startups’ Marketing Stories Series, writing articles to help clients connect with their audiences, and creating high-quality resources such as guides and tools to showcase clients’ expertise and generate leads for their businesses.
You can’t beat the feeling of finishing a content project and knowing you’re putting something out into the world that’s genuinely helpful for a particular group of people. Except for maybe the feeling of watching the F1, but that’s another story…
What gets me up in the morning
Kids and coffee - I’m definitely not a natural early riser - but out of necessity, I now love a sunrise (but still prefer a sunset!) and the chance to get my writing cap on to start the day. I love hearing about other people’s experiences and ambitions, and turning them into stories to showcase their success.
My startup superpower
I’m inquisitive and love to chat, so I find it easy to have relaxed and friendly conversations with people while bringing out their knowledge and wisdom without them even realising.
Friday night fave
Nothing beats a takeaway and games with the family, then a drama series with a drink on the couch before bed.
